💻Sonoran Radio Setup

How to setup Sonoran Radio

Note: When you first load into server FiveM will prompt you to press F8 because the radio script is requesting permission to use your mic. You MUST press F8 and click ALLOW at the bottom right to be able to talk over radio.

1. Create a Sonoran Radio Account

  • Sign Up: First, ensure you have a Sonoran CAD account (if you don’t have one already). You can sign up at Sonoran CAD's website.

  • Linking Your Account: Once you have a Sonoran CAD account, log into it. Sonoran Radio is integrated with the Sonoran CAD system, so your login credentials are the same for both.

2. Join the Server’s Sonoran Radio Channel

  • Server Configuration: In our Discord open a support ticket and let staff know you require the community ID and acceptance, one of us will provide the details for joining the server's specific Sonoran Radio network and accept you in. This is to prevent any random outsiders from being able to easily discover and join our radio channels.

    • Admin Setup: The staff member should also ensure you are assigned to the correct role within the server for radio communication (e.g., Police, EMS, or other emergency services).

3. Install and Configure Sonoran Radio

  • In-Game Integration: Once you're connected to the server and ready to use Sonoran Radio, you will need to use a specific in-game keybind to open the radio interface, this can be set in your FiveM keybinds as well as other radio related binds. While setting this keybind, this would be a good time to go ahead and set your PTT(push-to-talk) keybind for the radio as well. Additionally, you can also use the command /radio.

    • Police and EMS Radio Channels: You’ll be given access to police, fire, and EMS channels. Make sure to check the frequency before speaking to ensure you're on the right one.

    • Civilian and Other Channels: If you're a civilian or another type of role, you may have access to different channels (e.g., for reporting or responding to general emergencies).

4. Using the Sonoran Radio System

Once you’re set up and connected, here's how to use Sonoran Radio during RP:

  • Starting Radio Communication:

    • Once you have your radio open, you can power it on by clicking the power knob on the radio UI. Once you're radio is on it will have a button to connect, click it and then you will be prompted to go to sradio.link. Go there and enter the 4 digit number displayed on your radio.

    • To speak on the radio, you must ensure that you have also previously set your PTT (push-to-talk) keybind when you set your open radio keybind.

    • Make sure you’re speaking on the correct frequency for your role (e.g., police, fire, EMS).

  • Radio Commands:

    • Push to Talk (PTT): Hold down the keybind you set previously to talk on the radio. Release the key to stop transmitting.

    • Clear, Concise Communication: Radio communication is often brief and clear. Use proper radio etiquette, such as:

      • Saying your callsign first (e.g., "Unit 32 to Dispatch, over").

      • Stating the information or request (e.g., “Requesting backup at Seaview Road").

  • Switching Channels/Frequencies:

    • If needed, you can switch channels to talk to different units or departments. You can change frequencies by opening the radio UI and clicking the center dial knob on the left or right sides.

  • Monitor Multiple Channels: This advanced setup allows you to listen to multiple frequencies simultaneously, which helps with coordinating between different locations or departments (like north and south or fire and EMS). This can be done by clicking the headphones icon on any channel under the scan tab on your radio UI.

  • To close/hide your radio UI you can click the purple button found on the side or by going to your settings in the radio UI and changing the option of what happens when you hit your ESC key. By default ESC will only take your focus off of the radio allowing normal interactions, if you wish to have ESC close the radio completely you will need to change this setting.

5. Special Features of Sonoran Radio

  • Emergency Signals and Alerts: When dispatch is active, Sonoran Radio allows dispatchers to broadcast important alerts to all connected units in a specific channel. This might include using a loudspeaker feature at a specific department building or an alert over the radio itself.

  • Units in Distress: Units that find themself in a tight spot and needing immediate help can open their radio and click the orange panic button or press the assigned keybind personally set. This will then play a panic tone over the radio alerting all connected units of your situation.

6. Troubleshooting Sonoran Radio

If you experience any issues with Sonoran Radio, here are a few things you can check:

  • Voice Settings: Double-check your in-game voice settings to ensure they are configured. You may need to adjust your microphone input and output levels.

  • Frequency Conflicts: If you cannot hear or speak with others, ensure you are on the correct frequency for your role (police, EMS, etc.).

  • Server-Specific Issues: If there are any server-specific problems (like a failure to connect or issues with the radio’s functionality), contact server staff or check for updates on any server-related in the main Discord.

  • Permissions: Ensure you have pressed F8 and allowed Sonoran Radio access to your MIC.

7. Best Practices for Effective Radio Use

  • Clear Communication: Radio channels can get busy, so make your communication clear and concise.

  • Etiquette: Use professional language and follow any guidelines your server admin provides. In general, keep messages short and avoid unnecessary chatter.

By following these steps, you’ll be set up and ready to use Sonoran Radio effectively in a matter of minutes.
